Anyone arriving in Heringsdorf by train has always seen it: Hotel Stadt Berlin, centrally located very close to the station, on a corner you simply cannot miss. The building is as much a part of the seaside resort’s image as the pier, the white villas and the Lindenallee. It is part of Heringsdorf’s spa architecture – that era of building that once made Usedom a first-class address in the Imperial age.
When Heringsdorf station opened in 1894, guests from Berlin, Stettin and Vienna stepped off the train here, picked up their luggage and arrived within just a few steps. The house has known many decades, many guests, many chapters. Like all great buildings on this island, it bears the traces of its time – and that is precisely what makes it so special.
The building’s history is well documented: it was constructed in 1889/90, and as early as 1890 it appears in the “Swinemünder Anzeiger” as the hotel “Stadt Berlin”. A guide to the seaside resort of Heringsdorf advertised it in 1891 as “Hartmann’s Hotel Stadt Berlin”, Kaiserstraße 22, “located in the middle of the beech forest, opposite the planned station” – so the house was already there before Heringsdorf station was even completed in 1894. A first-class hotel, with an elegant glass veranda, 40 rooms, 60 beds and stabling for 30 horses.
After that, the house carried many names. From 1894 it traded as Hotel “Minerva”; in 1899 it was acquired by the Ruscheweih family. In the 1920s and 1930s, owners and names changed several times – at times “Villa See-Hospiz”, from 1933 Hotel “Deutsches Haus”, from 1938 “Haus an der Sonne”. After 1945, the building served as a Soviet sanatorium; later it reopened as HOG “Stadt Berlin”. In 1991 it was taken over by the Ehlert family, and in 1993 it was reconstructed. The address also changed over time: until 1946/47 Kaiserstraße, then Ernst-Thälmann-Straße, and since 1992 Bülowstraße.
Since 2026, Hotel Stadt Berlin has been part of the OSTKÜSTE family. What begins now is not a demolition and not a new build. It is a renewal – with respect for what the house has been, and a clear view of what it can become.

OSTKÜSTE stands for apartments with character. For historic villas you do not simply enter, but truly arrive in. For the feeling of being in a house that tells a story – while offering everything you need for a wonderful stay.
After renovation, Hotel Stadt Berlin will offer exactly that: furnishings to the standard OSTKÜSTE guests know – and an openness to travellers. Smaller apartments ideal for short breaks. Mid-sized units for families and groups. The Ostküste Apartment House will offer 39 apartments of 16–55 m². Small double rooms and larger apartments with a fully equipped kitchen.

The new Ostküste Apartment House is located exactly where Usedom begins: centrally situated, just a few minutes’ walk from Heringsdorf station. If you arrive by train, a short stroll brings you right to the door. If you want to set off by bike in the morning, there is no detour. And if you decide to head to the pier in the evening, you will be there within minutes on foot.
No traffic jam at the island access road, no changing trains: the Ostküste Apartment House is the first OSTKÜSTE property ideally located for guests arriving by train. And if you arrive by car, you still do not need to search for parking: spaces are available directly at the property.
Luggage dropboxes in the entrance area make arrivals and departures flexible: lock your suitcase away safely, enjoy the beach, and check in later at your leisure.
Usedom is a cycling island. It has one of Germany’s densest networks of cycle paths – and Hotel Stadt Berlin sits right on its main axis. Lockable bicycle parking, excellent connections in every direction: if you are travelling by bike, you will find the perfect base here.
Directly opposite the property is Goethepark with a playground – green, shady, quiet and within easy walking distance. For families with children, it is a detail that makes a real difference in everyday holiday life: step outside briefly after breakfast, without having to go far.

Not every holiday lasts a week. Sometimes it is a long weekend, a spontaneous autumn escape, or a stopover on the way elsewhere. Hotel Stadt Berlin is designed with exactly that in mind: apartments suitable for two to six people.
Which holidaymaker does not know the moment? You check out, but still want to spend an afternoon at the beach. You would like your luggage stored safely? No problem – at our Ostküste Apartment House, guests can securely leave their luggage in lockers or large family dropboxes.
After a long day at the beach, after a bike tour across the island, after an autumn walk along the cliffs: the sauna is waiting. Not a wellness hotel with queues for changing rooms and mandatory bathrobes – but a quiet place where the evening finds its perfect close.
Parents who know how tight a holiday apartment can feel after two hours of rain also know what a good playroom means. The Ostküste Apartment House will have its own Kids Club Area: a place where children are happily occupied and parents can take a moment to breathe – without leaving the building.
Hotels have lobbies. Most holiday homes do not. The Ostküste Apartment House combines both: the generosity of a shared entrance and lounge area with the privacy of your own holiday apartment. A place to arrive, to wait for fellow travellers, to sit for a moment with a coffee. In addition to coffee machines, guests will also find service vending machines – for chilled champagne or a forgotten toothbrush.
Green, quiet, right by the house. The garden at Hotel Stadt Berlin gives your stay what Usedom has always offered: air, space, and a reason to step outside even when you do not feel like going to the beach.
Several apartments in the same house, a shared lobby, garden and games room on site: the new Ostküste Apartment House is particularly well suited to groups, family reunions and gatherings of friends who want separate sleeping spaces while still being together.
Thanks to its location by the park and the station, and its proximity to the pier, the house has always been especially popular with seniors. The spa forest is also just a few metres away and offers extensive relaxation.

The Ostküste Apartment House will open its doors in 2028. If you would like to be among the first to book, join our list of interested guests now. We will inform you as soon as apartments can be booked – and give registered guests access first.
