A house that has known Heringsdorf for generations<\/h2>\n

Anyone arriving in Heringsdorf by train has always seen it: Hotel Stadt Berlin, centrally located very close to the station, on a corner you simply cannot miss. The building is as much a part of the seaside resort\u2019s image as the pier, the white villas and the Lindenallee. It is part of Heringsdorf\u2019s spa architecture \u2013 that era of building that once made Usedom a first-class address in the Imperial age.<\/p>\n

When Heringsdorf station opened in 1894, guests from Berlin, Stettin and Vienna stepped off the train here, picked up their luggage and arrived within just a few steps. The house has known many decades, many guests, many chapters. Like all great buildings on this island, it bears the traces of its time \u2013 and that is precisely what makes it so special.<\/p>\n

The building\u2019s history is well documented: it was constructed in 1889\/90, and as early as 1890 it appears in the \u201cSwinem\u00fcnder Anzeiger\u201d as the hotel \u201cStadt Berlin\u201d. A guide to the seaside resort of Heringsdorf advertised it in 1891 as \u201cHartmann\u2019s Hotel Stadt Berlin\u201d, Kaiserstra\u00dfe 22, \u201clocated in the middle of the beech forest, opposite the planned station\u201d \u2013 so the house was already there before Heringsdorf station was even completed in 1894. A first-class hotel, with an elegant glass veranda, 40 rooms, 60 beds and stabling for 30 horses.<\/p>\n

After that, the house carried many names. From 1894 it traded as Hotel \u201cMinerva\u201d; in 1899 it was acquired by the Ruscheweih family. In the 1920s and 1930s, owners and names changed several times \u2013 at times \u201cVilla See-Hospiz\u201d, from 1933 Hotel \u201cDeutsches Haus\u201d, from 1938 \u201cHaus an der Sonne\u201d. After 1945, the building served as a Soviet sanatorium; later it reopened as HOG \u201cStadt Berlin\u201d. In 1991 it was taken over by the Ehlert family, and in 1993 it was reconstructed. The address also changed over time: until 1946\/47 Kaiserstra\u00dfe, then Ernst-Th\u00e4lmann-Stra\u00dfe, and since 1992 B\u00fclowstra\u00dfe.<\/p>\n

Since 2026, Hotel Stadt Berlin has been part of the OSTK\u00dcSTE family. What begins now is not a demolition and not a new build. It is a renewal \u2013 with respect for what the house has been, and a clear view of what it can become.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>
